All About Blue

Blue is truly the most easy-going, confident, and people oriented puppy of the litter.  Despite the strange new environment and the person he didn't know, Blue approached all the tests with a happy, friendly attitude.  Nothing phases this little guy.

Social Attraction:  Blue happily went to meet his tester, tail held up and wagging as he greeted her.

Following:  Despite some curiosity with the new locale, Blue soon was following the tester around happily wagging his tail at the fun.

Restraint:  Not a peep from this little boy when he was turned over and restrained.  But the process lasted a bit longer than expected, so he decided to try to get back into a more comfortable position.  However, realizing he was stuck he soon relaxed again and waited for release.

Social Dominance:  Never one for sitting aloof, Blue leaned into the attention he received and attempted to cuddle into the tester's lap.

Elevation:  Like all the other puppies, Blue could care less about being picked up.

Retrieving:  Most Wolfhounds really are not into this kind of thing, but Blue actually showed some interest in the ball, chasing it a bit, then standing over it, not sure what to do next.  With some practice he could likely figure this kind of thing out.

Touch Sensitivity:  Blue is quite sensitive, meaning that a simple martingale collar and gentle corrections will be more than enough to help him when training.

Sound Sensitivity:  While the noise got Blue's attention, and he was curious about its origin, he had no real desire to pursue it or investigate it.  It wasn't hurting him, so it wasn't worth worrying about.

Sight Sensitivity:  Blue loved the pull toy.  He chased it happily, pawing and pouncing on it, eager to play the game.

Stability:  Like the others, Blue was taken aback when the umbrella popped open in front of him.  But as soon as it was on the ground he went right up to it, investigating this strange new thing, sniffing and poking at it to see if it might move again.

Cat in a Box:  Honestly, Blue could care less about the cat.  He approached and sniffed a moment, then seeing that she didn't want anything to do with him he walked away to do his own thing.

What does this mean?

Blue is a very easy puppy.  He's very confident with himself, not needing his handler to comfort him all the time.  On the other hand, he's also quite people oriented and happy to figure out what kind of game his person is initiating.  He won't let others bowl him over, and will likely play with other dogs with exactly as much oomph as they offer.  Training-wise he should be willing and easy to train.  Proper socialization is always important, but Blue has enough confidence to cope with new situations even if he's not had a chance prepare for them.  While positive training methods are always best, he will likely tolerate mistakes and some negative reinforcers without becoming afraid or resentful.  However he will not likely tolerate abuse, and will likely stand up for himself should someone be abusive.  Blue will probably enjoy most dog sports, including lure coursing, and should have the flexibility to learn all kinds of different things.  While he shows a desire to chase and play with the drag toy, Blue had no difficulty with the cat, happy to ignore her when it proved she didn't want to play.  With proper socialization with cats, he should live with them without difficulty.
