Introducing Orange
This handsome boy has always been one of the biggest puppies in the litter. Despite being very food oriented (and willing to bowl over his siblings in his pursuit of mommy milk or more recently puppy slop) he is actually pretty laid back with the rest of the puppies in terms of play. It's been hard to pinpoint Orange to this point, so the puppy test actually helped get a better grasp on who he really is.
Social Attraction: Orange is a friendly boy, and was quite happy to visit the new person who was calling him in the barn.
Following: Again, Orange followed eagerly, without hesitation.
Restraint: Of all the puppies, Orange resisted this restraint the most. He struggled, trying to pry the tester's hand off himself, or otherwise squirm away throughout the test. Settling wasn't in his agenda.
Social Dominance: Orange not only soaked up the attention, but actively sought it, trying to climb into the tester's lap and licking at her hands and legs.
Elevation: Like all the others, Orange could care less about being held up.
Retrieving: The crinkly paper ball was worthy of attention, and Orange did chase it and stumble over it. He didn't pick it up, but spent some time sniffing and pushing it with his nose.
Touch Sensitivity: Orange was the least sensitive of the litter.
Sound Sensitivity: The noise immediately caught Orange's attention. He was the only puppy who made a move to investigate where the noise might have come from.
Sight Sensitivity: While the dragged toy was interesting and worth chasing, Orange seemed more interested in following the handler than in going after the towel.
Stability: Orange could care less about the umbrella. He barely startled when it opened, and otherwise he just ignored it.
Cat in the Box: The cat was definitely interesting to Orange, though he didn't make a real effort to get at her in the cage. On the other hand he didn't lose interest very quickly and was quite curious about her.
What does it mean?
Orange is a very stable and confident puppy. He's fairly independent and will not likely be over reliant on his owner, but also enjoys people and wants attention. He seems intelligent and curious about things, and unafraid of anything. So far Orange doesn't have a high play/prey drive, instead being more socially oriented, though this could change. His continued interest in the cat means that he might be more inclined to pester a cat or other small animal, though it was not excessive. Because he is a bit insensitive and independent natured, Orange might be a bit harder to train than some of the other puppies. However he is socially interested, and shows intelligence in his responses, so with consistent positive training he should do well. Nothing is likely to scare Orange much, especially if he is well socialized. Orange could become a bit of a handful to handle if not adequately trained, and could become a bit pushy with others. On the other hand he shows no aggression at all, not even biting at the play things during the testing.
