The Little Purple Lady
Throughout this journey, Purple has had a special place in our hearts. She has always been a strong willed little girl, and has fought from being the littlest surviving puppy to being the biggest girl and tying up with some of the boys. Even so, she's still small and delicate, a refined little lady.
Social Attraction: Purple was quite overwhelmed by the new location and was far more interested in looking around than in coming to the tester. She has always been the independent type, and it showed here. She did eventually come to the tester, but wasn't particularly eager about it.
Following: This was definitely not in Purple's agenda. She did wander about, somewhat in the tester's direction, but did not actually follow at all. Interestingly she will follow a bit in the yard, but even there her independent nature tends to show up.
Restraint: Purple definitely struggled a little bit with this, though she didn't really put in a ton of effort. She altered between struggling and relaxing, and generally avoided eye contact when she did relax.
Social Dominance: Attention is always worthwhile, and Purple quite enjoyed being patted. She didn't come closer, nor did she show any signs of leaving. She just lay quietly, enjoying the loving. Interestingly she has had a tendency to be a lap dog when in the yard, so the strange person and environment definitely made a difference here.
Elevation: Like everyone else, Purple didn't mind being elevated at all.
Retrieving: The ball was crinkly and interesting, and worth following and pushing with the nose, however Purple didn't try to pick it up and decided to come back to the tester soon after investigating.
Touch Sensitivity: Purple is very sensitive, not tolerating the pressure at all.
Sound Sensitivity: The noise definitely made Purple jump, she wasn't too sure about it at all. She didn't run away, but looked to the tester to protect her from the scary sound.
Sight Sensitivity: A moving toy was quite interesting, and Purple enjoyed the chase. She wasn't over eager to paw or pounce on it, but quite enjoyed following it around as the tester dragged it.
Stability: Here Purple handled the surprise of the umbrella quite well, startling briefly, then approaching with some caution. She wouldn't actually touch the umbrella, but seemed comfortable enough around it.
Cat in a Box: The cat was quite interesting to Purple, though not to the point where she got overly excited.
What does this mean?
While Purple is a bit less confident than some, she seems to have a good ability to recover from things that spook her. She is an independent girl who has a mind of her own. While in the test she didn't show a lot of social connection, she is normally a lot more of an attention seeker. This means she will likely become quite attached to her person or people, but may be wary of strangers. Her high sensitivity means that it is important that she is trained with positive methods as she will not likely tolerate heavy-handedness or a lot of negative reinforcement. Purple's tendency to prefer to explore and her independence will make training more difficult, and she may not be as suited to dog sports as some of the other puppies. Purple will likely do well in a home where she gets regular attention, but also gets a fair bit of time to herself too. A lot of socialization will be necessary to make sure Purple is confident in a variety of settings and situations, though her quick recovery time will make her less likely to be intimidated by new situations.
